Benches: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
Where’s My Backpack posted the challenge of benches for all of us to have some fun with. I’ve encountered a lot of benches on my travels and honestly I don’t take the time to sit on them. I’m usually running around looking at all the details around me. But here are a few of my favorites.
International Women’s Day: Where’s My Backpack Challenge
Where’s My Backpack has a great challenge: International Women’s Day. There are a lot of inspiring women in my world. And I am proud to be a successful woman. Mind you that success can be defined in many ways and always very personally. So here are a few photos that are my tribute to women.
For the sweetness and the softness of women. We are strong enough to cry, too.
We worked for years with tools not of this modern age.
And not to forget my own mother – we do an art show together each November. She draws and paints and I take photos!
Roads:Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
Just getting caught up on some challenges over the last month. I really like this one: Roads from Where’s My Backpack. So here are two roads. One you have seen before – a drunk person’s road in San Juan – and the other is a lazy, slightly winding rural road.
Bridges: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
Seeing this week’s Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge of Bridges I immediately knew of a couple of photos that I would like to share.
The first is at Multnomah Falls in Oregon.
The second is from Portland – though I do not remember which highway that the bridge is on.
This last one is from my trip to Venice in 2007 where one of my good friends took a photo of me in front of the Bridge of Sighs. If you have read my other posts you know that Venice is one of my favorite cities in the whole world!
Shadows: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
All we see are shadows, light, and color – which if I recall from biology is really a product of light. Anywho, this week the challenge from Where’s My Backpack is shadows. I kind of like this one. It’s fun to see what we can find in shadows every day and I’ve played with them a bit. My favorite one so far is of my nephew, back in 2010, fishing in Roaring River, MO. You will notice that it seems a bit upside down but isn’t that how our shadows appear to us?
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Walls
I love history and culture. So my trip to Italy in 2007 was truly an immersion in both. One of my favorite spots in Rome was the field which is called Circus Maximus. I could just see all the activities that had taken place there in my mine. Here are a few of the remaining walls.

Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: UP
I always enjoy the challenges hosted by Where’s My Backpack. This one is for the word UP.
I dug into my photos from 2007 and a trip to Italy to see one of my best friends. She actually lives just outside of Pisa so we had to make the trip to the leaning tower. Here are just a couple of photos of the tower that seems like it shouldn’t be still standing UP.
Multiples: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
I’ve been holding onto these photos of multiple types of dogwood blooms since last spring. So when the challenge for multiples came along from Where’s My Backpack I decided to share them. Though they are not multiple in the photo there were multiple types of dogwoods at Honor Heights Park in Muskogee, OK.
Festive! Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
The first weekend of December my husband and I made a trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas for an exhibit at the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs. The exhibit, WinterTide, showed two of my photos. While we were there we made a trip to Garvan Gardens. We saw a truly beautiful light show there. It had a great combination of nature, the holiday spirit – Christmas music, hot chocolate, popcorn, and lots of lights! Here are a few photos that mean Festive to me this holiday!
Transportation: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
Always a little slow to get my challenge photos out – but here is the Transportation challenge for Where’s My Backpack!
This was taken on the Yukon/White Pass railroad trip in Skagway, Alaska.
Circles: Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge
In the spirit of the season I wanted to find something that fit the challenge of circles from Where’s My Backpack and was also a bit to the Christmas side of the spectrum. Here are a few that I found.
This one is a tree lighted to the music in Garvan Gardens, in Hot Springs, AR. The music would play and the different layers of the tree would light up.
The second photo is of a gingerbread house Santa. This was in the lobby of The Arlington hotel. It was a huge house and this was one of the many windows with characters and candy!
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Liquid
Being as I love the water – beach, lake, stream, waterfall – this week’s challenge from Where’s My Backpack, which was liquid, was fun to choose. I also wanted some photos that I hadn’t shared with you yet. So looking a bit into my stash I found these three.
This first one is from our honeymoon in Alaska. I love the tones in the photo. And, of course, the scenery was magnificent!
This second one is from our early anniversary cruise to the Caribbean. It is in St. Kitts and is where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic!
And the last of the three is from a trip to Hot Springs, AR. It is a town that has captured my husband and I for some reason unknown to us. I think it has something to do with the history and the feel of the area around the springs – specifically Bathhouse Row. It seems as if you are just on the edge of being back in the 1920′s with all the people who came from around the world to the bathhouses back in their heyday.
Just for fun and a bit of a play on the word liquid, here is a photo of a beer sampler we had while in Seattle at the Pike Brewery!
Mystical
If you can’t tell from most of the photos on my blog, I love the outdoors and nature. So when Where’s My Backpack posted the Mystical challenge I was so excited and thought of several right away. But I wanted to show something new instead of just ones I’ve shown before. So here are two new ones and one you have seen before.
This first one is from a favorite spot in the middle of America. Hot Springs, Arkansas. The springs to me are very mystical. The history of the town and the springs is even more mystical and interesting. Hubby and I go back when we have any excuse to though it isn’t a place that screams “visit me”. (and we’re headed back for a weekend in December for another art show I was selected for!)
The next photos are from the Columbia Gorge area – around Multnomah Falls and Wakheena Falls. The first one is new to you – just a passing small waterfall along the pass.
This last one I’ve shown before and I am still in love with it. I call it my pixy home. Siggghhhh….
Where’s My Backpack Challenge: Soft
I am twisting it a bit this week for the Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Soft. You see, I’ve been the one traveling and when I got home this week the puppies we have had grown so much!!! I have to share some of their cute photos and their fur is sooooooo soft that it just seemed to call to me to enter into the challenge. Hope you enjoy!
Our escape artist – he kept escaping the puppy pen to go lay on the big dog bed!
This second one is one of the two girls. She is super sweet and cuddles into your neck like a sweet soft pillow!
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Spooky!
This week the travel challenge over at Where’s My Backpack is Spooky! That is kind of fun because I am not dressing up this year, attending any Halloween parties, or even handing out candy. No, I’m not being a curmudgeon – just haven’t the time and we don’t have little ones at the RV park this year. So, Spooky it is!!
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Texture
While sorting through my photos today for the Couples challenge I came upon one that I really liked to submit for the texture challenge.
This is from the Aria hotel in Las Vegas. Gorgeous floor from above! You can see people in the back of the photo. The contrast of the browns in the floor captured our attention. Then the placement of the flooring made you want to hop down there and see what it felt like. So this represented both visual and a wish for a tactile texture.
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Couples
For the Where’s My Backpack Travel Theme Couples I was a bit challenged. (pun intended) Typically, people are not the focus of my photos. I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable taking photos of people even when they are unaware – seems like an intrusion. But I did enjoy a trip to Las Vegas recently with our friends Darla & Ray when they married and I was honored to take photos for their wedding. So here are two that I like. The first seems very special because you can see the love between the two.
The second is when they were walking from the elevator to meet the limo that would take us on the trek to the marriage license bureau, the chapel, and then to their chosen photo spots.
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: On Display
When I read the challenge this week for Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: On Display I was so excited because I thought of a display immediately that would be awesome to share! These are from a store in Hot Springs, AR along bathhouse row. It was a very cool store and they even let us take our dog, Cedar, inside and gave him treats! Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the store, though. Nevertheless, enjoy the photos!
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge:Animals – favorites!
It just seemed wrong to do a 7 day challenge and then not wrap it up with a favorites post! So, here, after 7 posts on animals in response to the Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Animals – I’m sharing my favorite photo from each of the 7 posts!
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Animals – Day 7
Once again, searching deeply into my photo library, I found a few photos that were from our honeymoon for the last day of the Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge:Animals. So to keep it short and sweet for you today.
The first photo is of Hubby surrounded by the cutest raccoons I have ever seen. Two were babies and one the mama – who was blind in one eye. Yes, we did feed them parts of our ice cream cones.
The next photos Hubby took of seals on the icebergs (while I was enjoying the spa!)
Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Animals – Day 6
Longhorns.
I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and am a Longhorn to the core. Additionally, I do love animals. Longhorns have such a presence that I have always been impressed with them. These Longhorns I found outside of Lawton, OK around the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. So I hope you enjoy the Longhorns and if you get a chance stop by the refuge!

Where’s My Backpack Travel Challenge: Animals – Day 5
This is Day 5 in the Where’s My Backpack Weekly Travel Challenge: Animals! I had to dig pretty deep into my travel photos and I took some liberties on this post. In 2007 my sister and nephew joined me for a weekend in San Diego, CA. It was cold December but we bundled up and took a tour of the harbor and enjoyed our hotel on the water. So I’m kinda counting my cute nephew (newly turned 16) and a beautiful colored duck in with the category of animal. For those who are a bit more definitive I apologize but the trip was great and I’m sharing it with you!

Where’s My Backpack Weekly Travel Challenge: Animals – Day 4
As we go further into the week I’m more challenged to produce photos of animals for the Where’s My Backpack Weekly Photo Challenge – Animals. Today’s photos are from a recent trip to Seattle. You may have seen some in the posts Not So Sleepless in Seattle – Day 1 and Day 2. The photos came from our adventures at the Seattle Aquarium and Northwest Trek.
